What’s Inside a Run Capacitor?
June 18, 2018
In this video, Bryan and his kids show what’s on the inside of an AMRAD dual run capacitor.
The dual run capacitor in this video has a plastic lining sticking out from the center of the capacitor. Instead of having two capacitors jammed into a single shell, this AMRAD capacitor has two windings isolated by that thick plastic lining. The common side is on the opposite of herm and fan (center on the side of herm). There is a connection with a coating and then a soldered connection. Capacitors also have oil to dissipate heat.
Bryan’s kids help unwind the capacitor. The coating is insulated on both sides, and it managed to remain intact. It even took a bit of effort to break the winding.
