Join us for an immersive dive into Mechanical Air Distribution And Interacting Relationships (MAD AIR)! It is well understood that air leakage can create health and comfort problems for the occupants as well as durability, moisture, and efficiency issues for our buildings. In many states, new homes are required to pass the blower door test, which measures how leaky our buildings are at 50 Pa of pressure. However, our buildings are rarely under that test pressure. So, what’s really happening with air leakage? What does leakage look like in real-time, and how can we measure its effects? What are the drivers that cause actual air leakage? What kinds of problems do different types of leakage cause? Using a custom-built house simulator, we’ll dive into the answers to these questions. We’ll also introduce the concept of MAD AIR and show some methods you can use to identify and remediate air leakage-related issues. Using a live demonstration, we’ll dive into all the ways that pressure imbalances can wreak havoc on home comfort.
