More often than not, we come across duct systems that have an array of issues. These issues include oversized systems on undersized ducts, poor flex duct installations where ducts are crushed between framing members and/or have unnecessary bends and turns, and air leakage in the duct system. All of these issues contribute to comfort, efficiency, and IAQ problems throughout the house. In this session, Sam Myers and Eric Kaiser will use a mock-up of a duct system attached to a calibrated fan, where they will simulate and demonstrate a variety of duct issues. They will then discuss methods to diagnose and resolve duct issues to help the system and house perform as intended. They will also show and how to make a drawing and perform static testing along the air path to determine the exact location(s) of each problem.
