Real-time, remote monitoring tools, combined with in-field performance measurements, provide more accurate estimates of heating and cooling loads than traditional load calculation methods. Using this data during the design process for equipment selection leads to better outcomes for clients and contractors, especially when using heat pump systems. These same tools can be used for post-install analysis and troubleshooting to help designers and installers determine how close they were to hitting a “bullseye” with the equipment design, and it can help refine future work. John will discuss the popular tools currently available to HVAC contractors, explore several case studies using these tools, and offer suggestions to manufacturers for how they can better integrate monitoring into their products.
